Gabriela's new "dress"

So, here is the story with the dress. A few days ago, Gabby got dressed for school. When I went in to check on her I found her wearing one of my maternity shirts as a dress. I said, "Gabby you can't wear that to school." She asked why not and I said it was a pregnant shirt. She said, "It looks like a dress on me." After some arguement I let her wear it under the condition that she wear tights and an undershirt. She wondered why an undershirt and I explained that the neck was a bit too wide and that someone might see her chest. Her response was, "Mom, I need a bra!"

Time to shave Ricky!

Well, it has happened again. We had to shave Ricky! He gets mats in his fur and needed to be shaved. This seems to be becoming an anual tradition. We should do this in the spring, rather than the fall. Oh well. This is called a lion's shave. We think he looks like he is wearing leg warmers.

Isn't he cute!

Well, we spent the weekend in Las Vegas. It was fun, but we made the trip to short. We arrived Saturday afternoon and came home on Monday morning. It is a long drive for such a short stay. However, we did enjoy time together as a family. Here are the pics.

Gabby's first day of school

Well, my little Gabriela is in first grade! I can't believe how fast she is growing up. And of course, I think that she is the most brillant and beautiful girl in the first grade. The day before school started, Gabriela got to be a hair model for a beauty college here in Payson. I am still waiting for the official pictures from the photo shoot. But here are some pictures that Erwin took during the cut and style as well as some of the photos I took of the first day of school!

Onion Days!

During Onion Days, Gabby's dance group were in the children's parade on Saturday. Then they preformed in the young people's talent show. On Monday, they were also in the gand parade. This day was a disaster! It rained so hard! By the time the kids reached where we were sitting, those who were left on the trailer were huddled under a tarp trying to stay dry!

Many things have happened...

We have been a busy family and I have been a bad blogger. I am really quite technologically retarded. In fact, I was trying to upload pictures from my camera to the computer this morning and I somehow managed to make copies of several pictures. Even worst than that, I was trying to delete the copies and in the process make even more copies. After a very long time, I gave up and now have up to 11 copies of each picture. I hate technology! Well, I suppose that is part of why I don't keep up on my blog. Hopefully I will be able to add some of the pictures of the things we have been doing lately. We'll see how it goes.

My mistake

Well, I don't know how to erase the extra smilebox slideshow of the parade, so, you get to watch it twice I guess. It was a really fun day and Gabriela really did do a good job in the parade. She is one of the best dancers in the class. She was very nervous though. I don't know why, she did great and we knew that she would. I was a really hot morning and I think she was glad when it was over. Cristian loved watching the parade, especially the horses.

Lastamosamente, Erwin no estavo. Esto paso mientras que el estuvo en Los Angeles para el trabajo. Los ninos extranaron su papa y esperamos viajar con el la proxima vez.

New definition of burning rubber!

Well, I know that most of you who read this blog already know about Cristian's rubber burning experience. He burned through several layers of his skin when his hand got stuck in our treadmill. But, nobody else has seen the injury. So, I have some pictures to post.

Swimming, Dancing, and Bicycling...Oh my!

Well, our little Gabriela has been very busy these past few weeks. She has been taking swimming lessons and is getting to be a very good little swimmer. She also started her first dance class. I think that she will really enjoy dancing and that she will be a really good little dancer. Finally, she learned how to ride her bicycle without her training wheels. To my great relief, this was an easy feat for her that required very little effort on my part. I really had no idea how to teach her, but she just seemed to pick it up and take off without much help from me. Yeah!

Birthdays

Well, we have made it through the birthday season for our family. Cristian turned two on May 28 and Gabriela turned six on June 1. We had a small family dinner party to celebrate on Cristian's birthday, although I don't think that he had a clue about what was going on. Then on Sat. May 31 Gabriela had a birthday party with some of her friends in the neighborhood. She invited ten kids and five of them were able to come. We had a big water fight party. She got a new slip and slide and the kids played on that. We had a competition to see who could slide the fartherest and Emma Tueller won that. I also bought a bunch of water guns for the kids to play with. I hung an old bike tire up on the fence and the kids had to shoot at it as if it were a target and the kid who hit the bulls eye won a prize for that. After that, the kids just played together in the water. I think that they had a good time and to end the party Gabriela opened her presents and the kids had cupcakes. I'd say it was a pretty successful first friend party for Gabriela. On Sunday we had one more party. This was a party for the family and grandma Kathy, grandpa Brucey, Jacob, Melissa, Benji, Zach, Nate, Celeste, Alex, Tifani, and Dempsey all came to this party. We also celebrated Jake's birthday as he turned 30 on the 25th of May. Once again it was a lot of fun. We had dinner, opened presents, and ate cake and ice cream. Too bad that Nate and grandma Kathy were not feeling good. But it was fun anyway. Now I don't have to think about birthday's for several months. Yeah! I wish that I had pictures of the party to post, but Erwin took the camera with him to California so there were no pictures:( Oh well.

I am trying to blog

Well, everyone else is doing it so I supose it is time for me to try. I am very computer illiterate so this may turn out to be an absolute disaster. I don't have much to say to start, but I think I will introduce you to my family. We are the Bastidas family. There are 6 of us. Erwin, Nicole, Gabriela, Cristian, Rickey, and Jack. We live in Payson, Utah and we love it here. As a family we love to travel, watch movies, and go to motorcycle races.
Erwin, our dad, is the actual motorcycle fanatic, but we all enjoy going with him...sometimes. Erwin works at Stouffers. He works very hard and almost always signs up for overtime. He doesn't necessarily like his job, but he is willing to work hard at it because he loves our family and wants to provide us with the very best. Erwin works a swing shift. He is from Colombia and loves his country and his family there. Erwin has 2 brothers and 1 sister. Even though they live far away he is very close to them and speaks with them on the phone almost every almost everyday. He is also very close to his mom. Erwin likes soccer, motorcycle racing, and collecting things.
Nicole, or me, the mom, stays busy working for Wasatch Mental Health as a social worker by day and being a mom by night. I prefer my night job, but it doesn't pay much money, although it does pay a great deal in hugs, kisses, and I love yous. I love to walk in the evenings with the kids and the dog. I also like to watch movies and read books. Erwin often complains that I should read books that will teach me how to be rich, but I much prefer fiction. I also like to stamp homemade cards and have gotten quite good at it if I do say so myself.
Gabriela is almos 6 and just finished kindergarten. She is a very smart little girl and an excellent reader. She likes to play games, especially Killer Bunnies, to do art projects and to play with friends. Gabriela is going to start dance lessons this summer as well as swimming lessons.
Cristian just turned 2 and he is a typical 2 year old. Always getting in trouble and climbing all over everything. He likes to swing, eat, and watch movies, especially Dora or Diego movies. He is growing up so fast and is getting to be quite the talker.
Rickey is our cat. He is a good cat. He likes to be outside, even though he is an indoor cat. Gabriela picked Rickey and named him. He belonged to Gabby's first preschool teacher and when the teacher moved we let Gabby have the kitty to remember her teacher. She named him Rickey Carmichael because he has red hair, just like the motorcycle racer.
Jack is the newest addition to our family, although he isn't really new anymore. He is our dog. He is a little shitzu and he is adorable. Jack fits in well at our house. He is a very mellow dog and is great with Gabby and Cristian. We believe that Jack is the best dog in the entire world!
So, that is our family. As I get better at this whole blogging thing I will share more and more with you and keep up updated on the things that are happening in our lives.
